Alumni Action Can Help Stem Tide of Budget Cuts

Potential tuition increases, delayed graduation times, further layoffs, and threats to academic quality. These are all potential outcomes in the ongoing budget crisis facing the Nevada System of Higher Education and, specifically, UNLV; its students, faculty, and staff; and alumni.

Over the past two years, UNLV has worked to find cost savings and operating efficiencies. Still, the university's budget was slashed by $25.1 million during the current fiscal year, resulting in the loss or freezing of nearly 100 faculty positions, 160 professional and clerical staff positions, and approximately 1,000 class sections for students.
